In this week, you’ll be diving in deep! Start your training in our centre with an Oxford TEFL expert young learner teacher (10 hours in total, Monday to Friday). The training will cover everything you need to know about teaching classes for early childhood (ages 3-5), young learners (ages 6 - 11, and tweens and teenagers (12-15). This includes specialised skills for both the online and in-centre classroom – ideal for those who may want to combine both in the future to optimise their earning potential!
In this week, you will also observe three young learner classes, delivered by one of our expert young learner teachers in our school. By the end of this week, you will feel ready to jump into any young learner classroom with confidence.
Start your teaching practice. You will be a teaching assistant either in Oxford House (our language school, the same location where you will also take the CELTA course) or in a local school. You will always be accompanied by one of our teachers and you will be observing, assisting the teacher in the classroom or teaching parts of the lesson. Your students will be young learners between the ages of 6 and 15 years old and mostly Spanish. This is an excellent opportunity to observe an experienced young learner teacher and also assist and teach the lessons. After each class you will receive feedback on the lesson and tips for the next class.
The exact schedule will depend on availability and time of year but will be a total of 5 hours of teaching practice in total (Monday to Friday).
At the end of this week, you will submit your reflective task and attend an end-of-course session with your tutor to share your learnings from the teaching practice week. You will then receive feedback on the task and your Oxford TEFL certificate in Teaching Young Learners.
Whether you choose to stay in Barcelona or work abroad, you’ll have gained the CELTA certification (highly sought after by employers) and also a certification to teach young learners, opening up even more teaching opportunities worldwide. Where will you go?
