Bethan is your Personal Program Coordinator at Oxford TEFL. Originally from the UK, she began teaching English in 2020 and has worked in schools, academies, and summer programmes in England and Spain. From day one Bethan will be your go-to person who will provide all the guidance you need to settle into Barcelona and make the most of your experience studying in Spain.

She will assist you every step of the way and ensure that your trip to Spain is smooth and hassle-free.

Day 1
Arrival in Barcelona

Arrive stress-free—we’ll pick you up at the airport and take you straight to your hosted accommodation. Start exploring Barcelona’s neighborhoods and culture.

Day 1
Weeks 1–4:
Earn Your CELTA (TEFL)

Dive into the 4-week Cambridge CELTA, Monday to Friday (10:00–18:00). Practical, intensive, and transformational—you’ll be teaching real students from the very first week. Receive personalised feedback and graduate with the world’s most respected TEFL certificate – the CELTA. You’ll also attend your Barcelona Life Masterclass and attend two cultural activities during this month.

Recharge & Explore

Take a breather! Use this week to enjoy Barcelona’s beaches, cafés, and cultural hotspots. You’ll also take part in two cultural activities and meet our careers advisor to fine-tune your CV and plan your next steps towards your career teaching Business English.

Week 6
Specialised Training Week

In this week, you’ll be diving in deep! Start your training in our centre with an Oxford TEFL expert Business English teacher (10 hours in total, Monday to Friday). Topics include:

  • Needs analysis for professional learners
  • Core skills for the Business English teacher
  • Teaching in-company and online
  • Designing task-based activities for workplace contexts
  • Presentation & meeting skills training
  • Using authentic materials (reports, emails, case studies)
  • Negotiations, roleplays, and communication strategies
  • Creating engaging lesson plans tailored to adult professionals

 

You’ll also observe three Business English classes taught by our expert trainers in-company. By the end of this week, you’ll feel fully prepared to deliver your own high-quality Business English lessons.

Week 6
Week 7
Teaching Experience Week

Step into the professional world! You’ll either assist or co-teach Business English sessions through Oxford House or with our partner company, BFirst. Classes are with adult learners from professional backgrounds. You’ll always be guided by an experienced teacher, with feedback after every session to help you improve.

By the end of the week, you’ll submit a short reflective task and attend a wrap-up session with your tutor. You’ll then receive your Oxford TEFL Certificate in Teaching Business English.

Week 8 and beyond:
Start Teaching, Earning, and Living Your Dream

Whether you decide to stay in Barcelona or move abroad, you’ll have the CELTA certification plus a specialist qualification in Business English—making you highly employable worldwide.

What are the entry requirements for the CELTA (TEFL) & Business English Program?

To be considered for this program, you will need to be accepted onto the CELTA course in Barcelona. To be accepted onto the CELTA course in Barcelona you will need to:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be educated to the standard required for entry into higher education (e.g., “A-levels” in the UK, a high school diploma in the US/Canada).
  • Be in good enough health to deal with the demands of an intensive training course.
  • Demonstrate your ability to cope with the academic demands of the course (assessed via the application process).
  • Have a C1.2 (high C1) or C2 level of English.
What is the CELTA course?

The Cambridge CELTA certification is a “TEFL” course and is preferred by around 75% of TEFL employers worldwide. You only need to check TEFL job ads to see for yourself that teachers with this certification are not only at the front of the queue for the best TEFL teaching positions, but they are also commonly paid a better teaching rate per hour. The CELTA certification is recognised everywhere. So, you can be sure that the course fee is worth every cent. This is an investment in your future self – wherever you choose to go in the world.

What is the school in Barcelona like?

Oxford TEFL in Barcelona is located in the centre of the city, just a 2 minute walk from the famous Passeig de Gracia. We are the largest teacher training centre and language school in Barcelona with fantastic facilities to study and enjoy. Facilities include a large garden, resource library, kitchen, communal area and 26 classrooms. Hundreds of adults and children learn English or Spanish in our school every year! You will take both your CELTA and Spanish lessons here.

What will I do during the one week of Business English training?

This week of specialist training will be led by one (or more) of our expert Business English teachers. Sessions are focused on practical strategies, skills, and resources for teaching English in professional contexts. You’ll study for a total of 10 hours (Monday to Friday). Topics include:

  • Conducting needs analysis for professionals and companies
  • Core skills for the Business English teacher
  • Teaching in-company vs. online
  • Designing lessons for meetings, presentations, negotiations, and email writing
  • Adapting authentic materials (reports, emails, case studies)
  • Task-based learning for workplace communication
  • Roleplays, simulations, and projects
  • Preparing students for business interactions in real contexts

On the last day, you’ll review key takeaways, prepare for your practice week, and complete a reflective task to consolidate your learning.

Do I need a visa to enrol in the CELTA (TEFL) & Business English Program?

We welcome applications for the CELTA (TEFL) & Business English program from citizens of every country –we want this program to be accessible to as many aspiring teachers as possible! If you are from within the European Union, you do not need a visa to enrol in this program in Barcelona. If you are from outside the European Union, you may need a Schengen Visa to study with us in Barcelona. Many countries (such as the USA, Canada and Australia) do not need to apply for a visa in advance (you would attend the program on your tourist visa which is stamped on your passport on arrival in Spain). Our in-house Visa Support Officer will advise you on this.

Is accommodation in Barcelona included in this program?

Yes, included in the CELTA (TEFL) & Business English package, we provide a total of 96 nights (3 months) of hosted accommodation in Barcelona. You can read more about the accommodation service.

What are the cultural activities like?

Barcelona is a fantastic location to study. It’s full of stunning buildings, history, culture, excellent shopping, and long sandy beaches. Truly unique, quite unlike anywhere else! During or after your CELTA course, you will be able to participate in four fun, cultural activities which will help you get to know Barcelona and meet friends along the way. The exact activity will depend on time of year and availability. 

Who is my personal program coordinator and what will she do?

Your personal program coordinator, Bethan, will be your go-to person through the entire program. From the moment you reserve your place on the program, you will be able to WhatsApp / email her at any time. She also works on-site in our school so you will be able to meet her in-person at any time. Her duties include:

  • Booking your airport transfer and ensuring that your arrival in your hosted accommodation goes smoothly
  • Providing an orientation of the school and first day meet-and-greet
  • Presenting your Barcelona Life Masterclass and ensuring you are well-prepared for getting around and enjoying the city
  • Being a central point of contact for communication, supporting you and ensuring that you are satisfied with the entire program
  • Arranging cultural activities
